In most countries, all paintings, sculpture, architecture, text, and other creative works have copyrights which last for 50 years after the death of the creator. An image of a work that is still under copyright is a derivative work, and infringes on the copyright so that we cannot usually keep the image on Commons. In some countries, there is a special exception to the copyright law which allows such images under certain circumstances. We call that exception freedom of panorama (FOP). Unfortunately there is no applicable FOP exception in Zambia.

Please find me one person in Zambia (or anywhere else) who objects to this photo being used in the Victoria Falls article, or any other WP article. Just one. Many photos have been removed from Commons for no reason other than a theoretical copyright infringement, when no one objects to them or cares if they remain. This ridiculousness needs to stop. 69.112.220.90 03:41, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
See COM:PRP. BTW, according to this report by the Times of Zambia, the sculptor of this statue is the Lusaka artist Nsofwa Bowa who is active on Facebook and Linkedin. He could be asked for permission for a release of these pictures under a free license and this permission would have to be forwarded to our support team. --AFBorchert (talk) 07:17, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
