Afrikaans: Waarheen het die skoenlappers verdwyn?, het sy gewonder. Op ouderdom 72 het die agteruitgang van die Cherangany-heuwels se ekostelsel vir Rachel Nyakeri laat wonder wat die toekoms vir haar kleinkinders inhou. Ontbossing, drooglegging van vleilande en gronderosie het die gebied se bioverskeidenheid laat afneem, insluitend die pragtige skoenlappers. Die tyd het aangebreek vir 'n ingryping in onoordeelkundige benuttingspraktyke van plaaslike gemeenskappe. Deur middel van die Timber Forest Products-onderneming, help sy met inkomsteskepping as 'n insentief vir bewaring en die herstel van die plaaslike biodiversiteit.
English: Where did the butterflies go she asks? It all started with Rachel Nyakeri age 72 wondering what the future holds for her grand children with the rapid degradation of the Cherangany Hills ecosystem. Deforestation, wetland drying and soil erosion have diminished the areas biodiversity, including the beautiful butterflies. It was time to stop land and forest degradation by local communities. By fostering Non Timber Forest Products enterprises, she helps generate income as an incentive for conservation to reclaim the areas lost biodiversity.
