Summary[edit]

Description
English: This photo shows kenyan women at work. Kenya is a tropical country in Sub-saharan Africa and lies on the equator. The African culture and Kenyan culture for that matter value division of labor. Kenyan culture also has a high masculine index. In the country, men are expected to do the difficult mannual labor while women participate in lighter tasks such as cooking and looking after children. However, with the rising cost of living in the country, the roles seem to have changed. In this image, women are doing difficult manual labor in building construction. This job was regarded to be the most difficult in the country and is often done by youths at their prime. The youth must be energetic and dedicated. It requires alot of sacrifice to do the job for six hours a day for a wage rate of ksh 500. These women have decided to go against all odds to place a plate of food on their table.
