Urgent Need: Appeal for Emergency Funding

Friday, April 18th, 2008

In the aftermath of tribal clashes in Kenya, many problems have risen that need immediate attention. This is an attempt to secure funding to help.

In Nairobi, Kenya, there is an area known to all as the slum among the slums: it’s called Mathare. There, Bishop Joseph Maina and his wife, Lucy, are struggling to maintain some semblance of sanity. They had a building that was used as a Church on Sundays and Wednesdays, and the rest of the time it was used to clothe, feed, educate and even house over 300 children of whom most are orphaned or have mothers that are prostitutes and with AIDS.

During the tribal clashes, this building was destroyed. All of the bedding, teaching materials, equipment for the church and school stolen, all foods and cooking utensils taken. This Bishop was left with nothing to start over with.

AGM has helped to provide some relief but the need is overwhelming. We need immediate help to provide rental space for these children, medical supplies, bedding materials, food, and clothing until we can build back the facility. It is estimated that we can stabilize the situation with the children for $12,000. This will give enough time to secure the funding to build another multi-purpose building of 50×60 to accommodate the work.

Any assistance that can be secured would be greatly appreciated at this time. The one thing we don’t have is the luxury of time. We need to act quickly and responsibly to help now.

May God bless all who consider this request for emergency aid.

Urgent Need: Building Project

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Today, on the outskirts of a city called Kisii, in northwestern Kenya, there are two groups meeting under banana trees. These people are considered among the very poorest of the region. Most have no real home of their own, and those that do, usually live in mud huts. One group has 45-50 people, the second has about 60. These two groups are made up of new Christians that have been led to the Lord Jesus by AGM Pastors working in the area.

Because both of these groups are new and a distance from one another, we need to help each of them with a building, equipment, and Bibles. The Bibles need to be the Ekegusii and the Kiswahili languages. Our Pastors are the only ones that have a Bible at this time. One Bible in the Kisii area costs 650 Kenyan shillings, equal to $10.31 US dollars. We need at least 100 Bibles at this time. (Total cost: $1031.00)

Here is a breakdown of the costs for each building, sent to the AGM office from our Bishop in the area:

Sound Equipment:

Two box speakers

Two hone speakers

One generator

One amplifier

One keyboard

One inverter

Cables and codes

Total cost for these items $2,000.00

The permanent building will be a 30×50 brick structure:

Sand, 10 lorries

Cement, 80 bags

Concrete, 2 lorries

Bricks, 6,000 pieces

Timbers 2×4′s, 70 pieces

Windows and glass, 10

Lintals, 15 pieces

Iron sheets, 90 pieces

Roofing and nails

Metal doors, 3

Ceiling boards

Transportation

Walls pass 10kg x120

Binding wire

DPC RS, 10 pieces

Labor

Paint

Total cost for one church $7,926.98

Therefore, the amount needed to build and equip two churches and secure Bibles for both is $20,884.96.

Thank you for your consideration of this project. May the Grace of God be with you.
